Comment: PRESS RELEASE DC California Drums For Immediate Release Canadian Drummer Awarded International Honour Ultra high-end custom drum kit manufacturer, DC California Drums of Sherman Oaks, California, have chosen Mississauga based professional drummer Dan Bodanis as the Marquis Endorsee for their first Signature Series drum kit. DC California Drums, owned and operated by LA studio percussion legend Iki Levy, have broken with 100 years of tradition to create custom-crafted drum kits that are not only refined to perfection in every detail but also loaded with increased performance innovations. Having played on numerous recording sessions as a drummer/percussioni st with such stars as American Idol’s Paula Abdul, and considered one of LA’s top studio musicians for several decades, Levy has learned a thing or two about great drum sounds and how to achieve them. Each drum kit goes through a rigorous ‘shell matching’ set of tests to ensure that the fundamental sound of the shell meets the company’s required criterion. Now here’s where they begin to break with 100 years of tradition. Other professional drum kits have a rounded 45-degree bearing edge. DC California Drums have a ‘razor sharp’ bearing edge that allows the musician effortless and endless tuning possibilities. This effectively allows the point of contact between the drum shell and the drumhead to be minimal. According to Levy, this is how you break through the limiting paradigm of ‘the same old drum sound’ to achieve a superior sound. But why select a Canadian drummer to endorse such a high profile, American product? Levy says, “Bodanis is a natural choice! Once you hear him play, and become familiar with his accomplishments as a professional performer and world-class teacher, the choice is obvious! Dan has performed with some of the best musicians on the planet including: Music Icon: Charles T. Cozens, Don Ellis, Moe Koffman, Daniel Lanois, George Olliver and Gangbuster, Grant Smith and the Power, Eugene Wright, Pat LaBarbara, Dave Field, and legendary vibraphonist Peter Appleyard. He has played drums on well over a hundred jingles and was the drummer on CTV’s “Live It Up” for several years. Beyond the obvious passion Bodanis has for playing drums, he has written an international best-selling, business book called “Drumming Up Referrals;” he travels the world as a professional, motivational speaker; he has his own jazz band with a newly released CD called “That Was Then” (www.thedanbodanisb and.com); and he manages to live a very balanced life centered on his family and his financial planning practice. Dan is the type of renaissance man that you rarely meet, but when you do, you come away inspired to live your life to the fullest. His students will tell you that he was the most demanding teacher they have ever studied with, but look who they have gone on to perform with: The Backstreet Boys, Quincy Jones, David Foster, Ray Charles, Alannah Myles, Carole Pope, Long John Baldry, Kelly Clarkson, Wayne Newton, The Rheostatics and The Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Dan has also inspired former students like Jeff Salem and Marc Atkinson to create award winning drum instruction books and videos. As a matter of fact, Modern Drummer magazine voted Atkinson’s book “The Unreel Drumbook,” the ‘Best Drumbook of 2004!’ Atkinson was so inspired throughout the process of writing the book he dedicated it to Bodanis and also asked him to write the introduction. DC California Drums are very proud of their association with Dan Bodanis!” Levy went on to share the fact that DC California Drums have also engineered a number of other significant enhancements to their drum sets. Little things like ‘tone-holes’, which are also referred to as ‘air vents’ have been eliminated. Virtually every drum that was manufactured in the last 100 years has tone-holes or air vents. Iki Levy has discovered that tone-holes are counter productive to creating a great drum sound. He compares a drum with a tone-hole to a leaky basketball. He says, “When a basketball is full of air and it does not have a leak, it performs properly & makes a very distinct sound. When air leaks out on a continuous basis, it does not respond properly & sound begins to deteriorate. DC California Drums have fixed this problem and have gone a lot further toward creating and developing the ultimate drum kit.” Levy says, “Our drums sing beautifully!” For more information on DC California Drums, please visit website: www.dccalifornia.co m or e-mail Iki Levy directly at ikilevy@pacbell.net.

It was a pleasure to have worked with you at Grant Ave Studio on Monday. I came home thinking what a kind and very talented gentleman. If you are available, I might get Bob to call on you again this summer when I wrap up this project. I read your bio. That is quite the journey thus far...Many blessings to you and your wife on your next big adventure. Diane :) 27 September 2005 04:04am |
